Oppo contest time! I have been turning it over in my mind what to do with this patch that came from the same collection as my Peugeot one did. A friends dad worked for alot of race teams and dealerships in the 70's and 80's and had a ton of old mechanics patches lying around that he left to his son, which he gave to me. So tell me why you should get it, and where you would put it, and I will choose the winner (also noting the number of stars on your responses) and mail it out tomorrow morning. Winner will be chosen at 4:30PM today. Good luck! EDIT: Shop-teacher had a fantastic submission. He wins, but thank you all for your participation!
Never sewn on, colors are bright, a little unraveling of the border at the bottom. I would touch it with a lighter to clean it up but that is up to you.
Ownership of Datsun not required for entry, although I can't say owning one won't be a bonus point or two. If you post pics of Datsuns with a " STANCE | WORKS " watermark on the bottom, I might dock you a point or two. Not that you can't post lowered cars, I am just sick of seeing that shit on every goddamn picture of a lowered car in the universe :)
additionally, if you have a bag or jacket all patched out like mine - that may be grounds for inclusion right there. I am just looking for someone to appreciate it!

This is my friend Danny. Every time someone asks what car they should buy (usually asking about new cars) he answers with Datsun. This is his 510. It's getting an RB20 swap and he's going to slide it. He takes a lot of pride in his wagon, despite being a little ugly. I know he'd really love and appreciate that patch.
That's the pitch.

ummm... can I have that table instead?

Two reasons; the 240z, or that lovely pun about Datsun cogs. Must've told that one a thousand times in my youth.
People didn't like me then.

Not looking to win, as I'm not a patch guy myself, but I'd like to remind everybody that these were available at your Datsun dealer:

Not Datsun specific but one reason to love Nissan is that they made one of the last (might even be the last) genuine 4-door hardtops. Y31 Gloria/Cedric was launched in 1987 while Toyota switched to hidden pillar hardtops in the early 80's. Finally in the early 90's crash safety regulations made the Y32 Gloria/Cedric a hidden pillar hardtop too.

here is the full table just so you can see the whole of it, as it usually sits

Care to tell it one more time?

I'm having a difficult time imagining a hidden pillar hardtop. Would you mind posting a picture of one?

Datsun is only the subject of the greatest car joke ever
A fledgling Japanese automobile company asked a veteran German auto maker to suggest a name for its new car.
"We need a name no later than tomorrow," said the Japanese official.
"Dat soon?" replied the surprised German.
And Nissan's famous Datsun series was born.
Also, you'd have to be a Commie to not love the vintage liveries and 510s

Actually I just remembered, if we're going by model years and not the launch date the last Nissan 4-door hardtop would be the C33 Laurel. It outlasted the Y31 twins by going out of production in '93 despite being launched earlier.
Look at that padded dash:

This isn't a pitch. Just an excuse to post these pictures of a car that ended up parked outside the shop last summer.

I love Datsuns. All of them. In fact, it's one of my frequent search terms on Craigslist and one of these days I'll either get a 510 or a... something else. I'm not kidding when I say I love all of them. My least favorites are the Zs just because of how common they are, relatively speaking. But everything else is pure sex.
Also, I do have a cluttered jacket in need of another patch!
I very sincerely apologize for the bathroom selfie.... That room has the best lighting in the house, and wearing the jacket is the only way I could get it to face said lighting without me blocking it. However, you'll notice I used my CSI skills to orient it the correct way and to cover up my outdated campaign button, just in case there's any subconscious bias about it.
(There's an ALMS patch on the sleeve which you can't see, by the way. This would go on the opposite shoulder, just above that pocket, if I win.)

that jacket is fantastic, and a fan of the brand too! NICE

Here's Y32 Gloria. They have frameless doors and the pillar is almost out of sight if you look it from side.

trust me, you'll like this version MUCH better. :)

i'd toss it in a drawer with a bunch of other stuff so i probably shouldn;t get it. I do vote to add a couple points recipients who actually do own one or have some sort of respectable patch collection.

Why do I love Datsuns? Because I want that patch. When there's some shit to be won, Goddamnit, I want it. I don't give a fuck what it is. You know what I'm talkin' about? I take no prisoners. I go hard doing this shit. Big dog. Big nuts. When names is on a motherfucking board, I wanna see my name at the top of that motherfucker and next to it, it needs to say 'Winner'

I love Datsuns because of Datsuns love for Africa, and especially it's essential part of making up the african transport system...aka Minibusses. Thank you datssun for your URVAN!

I love Datsuns because of nostalgia. I came home from the hospital in my mom's nine year old '72 Datsun B210 (stick shift, of course). She bought that car brand new when she was 18, with her own money, and she loved it dearly. Sadly, not long after I was born, the green beast succumbed to the ravages of rust. My dad left for work one morning, and came right back in and said, "Uhhhhhh ..... we're going to need to get a new car." The right side rocker panel was sitting on the ground. Both strut towers on the right side collapsed.
The green beast was promptly replaced by a blue '81 Datsun wagon, also stick shift. That was the first car I remember. Four year old me cried when we drove away from it in it's replacement, an '84 Olds Delta 88 coupe. That Delta 88 would become one of my favorite cars of all-time, but I was not happy to leave behind that Datsun. I vividly remember driving away from it, with tears in my eyes. I'm quite certain it was crying too.
So, I've always had a special place in my heart for Datsuns. I've never owned one, and I rarely see them, but I sure do get excited when I do spot one. In all honesty, I'm getting a little teary eyed thinking about it. We're closing in on three years since Mom passed, and Datsun has always equaled Mom to me.
